Horse Rental Mod

PUBLIC RELEASE IS HERE!!!!!

Happy Hooves is a new horse rental service for The Sims 4.

I wanted a way for Sims to enjoy owning a horse temporarily without having to permanently add one to the family, while still being able to build relationships and progress with that horse.

With Happy Hooves, your Sims can choose from a selection of eight horses, rent them for three Sim days, renew their rental, return them when they're finished, or purchase them permanently if they decide they don't want to give them back.

The Happy Hooves Horses

There are currently eight horses available:

Bojack

Juniper

Kahlua

Shadowfax

Herbert Hooves

Lulu

Sundance

Silverstrike

Each horse is persistent. If your Sim builds a relationship with one of the Happy Hooves horses, returns them and rents them again later, their relationship and progress will be preserved.

Renting a Horse

Use Rent A Horse to browse the available Happy Hooves horses.

Once rented, the horse will temporarily join your household for 3 Sim days.

Click your rented horse and select Happy Hooves Rental Options to:

View the remaining rental time

Renew the rental

Return the horse

Purchase the horse permanently

Only Sims belonging to the household that rented the horse can manage its Happy Hooves Rental Options.

Horses that are already rented won't appear as available to other households.

You can also rent more than one horse at a time. Each horse has its own rental period and timer.

Renewing and Returning

When the three-day rental period ends, you'll be given the choice to renew the horse for another three Sim days or return them to Happy Hooves.

Returning a horse removes them from your household and makes them available to rent again.

Relationships and progress with returned horses are preserved, so if your Sim rents the same horse again later, they won't be starting over with a new horse.

Buying Your Rental Horse

If your Sim decides they want to keep their rental horse, they can purchase them permanently for §3,000.

Once purchased:

The horse becomes a permanent household member

Happy Hooves Rental Options are removed

The rental timer ends

The horse is removed from the rental pool

Normal horse ageing resumes

Purchased horses remain purchased after saving and restarting the game.

Multiple Households

Happy Hooves supports rotational gameplay.

If one household rents a horse, that horse won't become available simply because you switch to another household.

Rental information and timers are kept separately, allowing different households in the same save to have their own Happy Hooves rentals.

Rental Horse Ageing

Happy Hooves horses are protected from ageing while they're part of the rental system.

If you permanently purchase a horse, this protection is removed and they will age normally again.

Requirements

The Sims 4 Horse Ranch Expansion Pack is required.

XML Injector v4.2 is required.

Download XML Injector from Scumbumbo Mods

XML Injector is not included with the Happy Hooves download and needs to be installed separately.

Please also make sure Custom Content and Script Mods are enabled in your game settings.

Installation

Download the ZIP file below
Extract this folder
Move the two files (script file and package file) to your mods folder.

For example:

Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods > Happy Hooves Horse Rental PACKAGE AND SCRIPT.

As this is a script mod, don't place the .ts4script too many folders deep.

If you're updating Happy Hooves, remove the previous version before installing the new files. I also recommend deleting localthumbcache.package after updating.

Important: Happy Hooves Rental State

Happy Hooves creates a small file called:

HappyHoovesRentalState.json

This is stored in your The Sims 4 folder and is used to keep track of Happy Hooves rental information between saves, game restarts and household changes.

Please don't delete this file while you have active Happy Hooves rentals.

You don't need to open or edit it.

If you're moving a save to another computer, please also copy HappyHoovesRentalState.json if you want to retain the Happy Hooves rental information associated with that save.

Reporting Bugs

Happy Hooves v0.1 has been tested across renting, returning, renewing, purchasing, household switching, saving and restarting, but please report anything that doesn't behave as expected.

If you find a bug, please use the Happy Hooves Bug Report Form rather than reporting it only in the comments. Having the details in one place makes it much easier for me to reproduce and investigate issues.

When submitting a report, please include as much of the following as possible:

The horse involved

What happened

What you expected to happen

What you were doing immediately beforehand

Whether the horse had been rented, renewed, returned or purchased

Whether you had recently switched households

Whether the issue happened before or after saving/restarting the game

Your Happy Hooves version

Your XML Injector version

Screenshots, if relevant

Any LastException generated around the same time

Please report things such as horses duplicating or disappearing, incorrect rental timers, missing Rental Options, horses appearing in the wrong household, missing horses in the rental picker, lost relationships, purchased horses becoming rentable again, or anything unusual after saving or switching households.

If something goes seriously wrong with a rental, please avoid making lots of changes to the affected horse before reporting it if possible. The state of the save when the problem occurred can be useful when diagnosing the issue.

Terms of Use

Please do not reupload, redistribute or claim Happy Hooves Horse Rental as your own.
