A Self-Care & Beauty Experience for The Sims 4

💖 Overview

Beauty Bar is a growing self-care and beauty system for The Sims 4, designed to give your Sims a dedicated space to indulge in treatments that enhance their appearance, mood, and confidence.

The idea for this mod started from frustration with how body hair growth works in The Sims 4. I was really excited when EA introduced dynamic growth, but the constant regrowth after just one day became a bit annoying.

I created Beauty Bar as a semi-immersive solution — sending Sims off-lot for a period of time and giving them an extended break from hair regrowth.

This is done without rewriting EA’s systems. Instead, the mod applies a hidden buff and uses a tracker to reset the hair commodity while that buff is active.

Disclaimer: The tracker runs every 5 in-game minutes, so there may be a very brief moment where hair starts to grow before it is corrected. This is expected behavior.

The goal of this mod is to go beyond a single feature and evolve into a complete beauty and wellness experience — adding depth, realism, and storytelling potential to everyday gameplay.

🌿 Current Features

☀️ Get Tanned (Requires Island Living)

We cleaned out the back room and added some tanning beds.

Ever wanted that golden glow but it’s a blizzard outside? Beauty Bar has you covered. Send your Sim in for a tanning session and come back with a fresh glow.

🪷 Get Waxed

The Beauty Bar Get Waxed service allows Sims to book a self-care appointment focused on smooth, polished results.

How it works:

• Open the Beauty Bar app on the phone
• Select Get Waxed
• Choose a Sim
• Select the body part

Once selected, your Sim will leave the lot for a period of time depending on the service.

During the appointment:

• Sims receive an uncomfortable moodlet reflecting the service

When they return:

• Hair is removed from the selected area
• Sims receive a confident buff for a few hours
• A hidden cooldown prevents regrowth for 7 sim days

You can send multiple Sims, but each one must initiate the interaction themselves.

⚙️ Important Notes

For the mod to work as intended, body hair growth must be enabled in CAS.

If it is disabled, hair will not grow back after the cooldown expires.

⚠️ CC Compatibility

Get Waxed is designed to work with EA’s body hair system — not replace it.

The mod does not modify EA’s growth system directly. It simply resets the hair commodity while the cooldown is active.

Custom Content (CC) body hair may not always be supported:

• Some CC hair may not be removed correctly
• Some may not respond to waxing at all
• Compatibility depends on how the CC was created

If the CC uses a valid body hair commodity, it should work.
If that value is set to 0, the mod will not be able to detect or modify it.

Unfortunately, this is not something that can be fixed on the mod side.

🔮 Planned Features

Beauty Bar is just getting started. Future updates are planned to include:

Get Waxed Improvements

• More varied mood outcomes (happy, energized, flirty, etc.)
• Early-waxing penalty system
• Improved icons and UI
• More immersive and dynamic appointments
• Better support for multiple Sims per service

Tanning Improvements

Tanning was added quickly to expand the mod, but it is not finished.

Right now, it works similarly to tanning on a towel — your Sim goes in and comes back fully tan.

This will be expanded to feel more realistic:

• Multiple sessions required to achieve a full tan
• Consistency across tanning beds, loungers, and towels

I understand this may not be for everyone, so Version 2 will include an option to choose between the current system and the updated one.

⚙️ Requirements

To use Beauty Bar, you will need:

• The Sims 4
• XML Injector by Scumbumbo (required for this version)
• Beauty Bar mod files

📦 Installation

1. Install XML Injector by Scumbumbo
2. Add the mod files to:

Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods

• The Core file is required
• Modules like Get Waxed and Get Tanned are optional

📁 Script File Placement

The .ts4script file must be no more than one folder deep.

Example:

Mods/BeautyBar/ZeroSkillz_BeautyBar.ts4script

🧹 Clear Cache (Recommended)

After installing or updating, delete:

localthumbcache.package

This helps prevent outdated data from causing issues.

• XML Injector is required for this version
• Always remove old versions before updating
• If the mod doesn’t appear:
  • Check file placement
  • Make sure no outdated files remain

📌 Final Notes

This mod started as a learning project. I had little to no experience going in and worked hard to learn how everything works. I also used ai to help bring this idea to life.

If that’s not your thing, I completely understand.

Beauty Bar is an evolving project, with more services and features planned.

I have not experienced any major mod conflicts during testing, and since the mod does not overwrite EA systems, conflicts should be minimal.
