Introduction
Hello! This mod automatically detects relationship changes in unplayed dynasties (such as marriage, childbirth, adoption, death) and changes the dynasty accordingly.
This makes it so dynasties will no longer just die out after every member dies, despite having living descendants who should take that place. (I'm really unsure why this wasn't a feature already, legacy is literally in the expansion name EA)
I grew bored of waiting for EA to patch this or for someone to make a similar mod, so I decided to learn some Sims 4 modding to create this. Please be mindful that there may be bugs or oversights in this mod, as this is my first time creating a Sims 4 mod and I am by no means an experienced programmer.
NOTE: This mod should only affect UNPLAYED households and dynasties. Any dynasties with a played sim will not be considered, even if the parent or marriage candidates are unplayed.
Settings
The mod's settings can be found in game through clicking on your active sim > Actions > Auto Dynasty/Inheritance Settings.
These settings allow you to modify which parts of the mod you want to enable/disable, what roles a member requires to have their children/spouses added to the dynasty and any relationship threshold requirements.
How it works
Marriages/Children
When a dynasty member has a child or gets married, that new sim will then then be added to their dynasty.
By default, this only applies to head/heir sims, as I believed it would become crowded quickly.
If you want all dynasty members children/spouses to be added, set the below settings to 'All Dynasty Members':
- Global Mod Settings > Dynasty Settings > Child/Adoption Settings > Required Parent Dynasty Role
- Global Mod Settings > Dynasty Settings > Marriage Settings > Required Spouse Dynasty Role.
If both sims are in a dynasty, the highest level dynasty will take priority. In rare instances, this may lead to the lesser dynasty being destroyed if the married sim is the last one remaining.
Dynasty Heirs
Dynasty heirs are also calculated automatically based on relations to the head. A sim must meet the friendly relationship threshold with the head sim to be considered (+10% by default). If the existing heir falls below this, a new heir may be considered.
The heirs are priortised based on family relations to the head sim in this order: children (oldest to youngest) > spouse > siblings (oldest to youngest) > parents.
Any sims outside of these relations are not considered.
Once the dynasty head dies or steps down, the heir will take over the dynasty. If there is no heir, the dynasty will go to whichever member has the lowest rank number.
Dynasty Outcasts
Dynasty outcasts, too, are determined by the relations to the head sim. If a dynasty member has below the friendly relationship threshold with the head sim (-60% by default), they will become an outcast in the dynasty.
If an existing dynasty outcast's relationship with the head sim is above a threshold (+0% by default), the outcast status will be revoked and they will become a normal member again.
Noble Title Inheritance
Once a sim in the Noble career dies, their title may be inherited by one of their relatives automatically. This is built differently to the dynasty system. Once a sim inherits the noble rank, they will lose their previous jobs and will be given the noble career at the deceased's previous level.
To qualify to inherit a noble's rank, a sim must:
- Be the deceased noble's child or spouse
- Live in the same neighbourhood
- Be at least a teen
- Must meet the relationship threshold with the deceased noble (+0% by default)
- Must not have a higher noble rank than the deceased noble.
The noble title inheritance priority is: dynasty heir (if child/spouse) > children (oldest to youngest) > spouse.
If no qualified sims are found, the noble rank will be lost unless manually reclaimed.
Automatic Alliances/Rivalries
THIS FEATURE IS DISABLED BY DEFAULT!!!
THIS WILL AFFECT EXISTING EA ALLIANCES/RIVALRIES IF THEY DO NOT MEET THE RELATIONSHIP NEEDS SET BY THIS MOD.
You can find the setting to enable it through Global Mod Settings > Dynasty Settings > Dynasty Relations (Alliances/Rivalries) Settings > [MASTER] Enable/Disable Automatic Dynasty Relations.
Based on the relationship between dynasty heads or the average relationship of a dynasty head with another dynasty's members, they may form alliances or rivalries. Existing alliances or rivals may also be ended if they no longer meet the relationship requirements.
The relationship requirements mentioned below are the default values and can be adjusted in the settings to your liking.
Alliances
An alliance will be formed if a dynasty head has either a +40% (or more) relationship with the other dynasty head OR a +25% (or more) average relationship across all dynasty members. Both dynasties must be within 3 prestige levels of each other to be considered for a new alliance.
Existing alliances will be ended if the dynasty heads have a negative relationship (0% or less) AND if they have a low average relationship across all dynasty members (5% or less).
Rivalries
A rivalry will be formed if a dynasty head has a -50% (or less) relationship with another dynasty head OR a -20% (or less) average relationship across all members.
Existing rivalries will be ended if the dynasty head has a +10% (or more) relationship with the rival dynasty head.
Enforce Dynasty Names
THIS FEATURE IS DISABLED BY DEFAULT!!!
THIS WILL AFFECT EXISTING EA SURNAMES IF SPOUSES DO NOT SHARE LAST NAMES. (e.g. Thiago Abrantes will become Thiago Thebe)
You can find the setting to enable it through Global Mod Settings > Dynasty Settings > Enforce Dynasty Name
Married sims have their names enforced to be the dynasty name IF their spouse has the dynasty name as their surname. New children will also have their name changed to the dynasty name if at least one parent (in the dynasty) it as their surname.
This is for continuity over long saves so dynasty names will persist for as long as possible.
EA Repairs
This mod also tweaks EA's own 'repair' for dynasty offspring, by stopping duplicate offspring sims from joining a dynasty whilst already part of another. On top of this, the mod also automatically cleans saves that have been affected by this bug, removing duplicate members in favour of played or highest-prestige dynasties.
These repairs only occur during the game's initial load.
The mod also offers settings which allows more customisation over these repairs, such as enabling/disabling them for both played and unplayed dynasties respectively or disabling repairs all together. You can also select certain roles (head/heir/member) to include or remove them from consideration. There is also an option to select what kinds of family relatives are added for each role instead of the repairs only adding children.
For duplicated sims, they may still appear in many dynasties after the mod does it's initial cleaning. The game does not update this in the UI until that sim loads into the game for some reason.
Generational Naming Retention
THIS AND RELATED FEATURES ARE DISABLED BY DEFAULT!!!
You can find the setting to enable it through Global Mod Settings > Dynasty Settings > Generational Name Settings > [MASTER] Enable/Disable Generational Name Retention.
Sims like Cordelia Thebe V and J Hunting III will have their lineage preserved in long saves, as children of the same gender will have their names automatically set to the next generation. For example, Cordelia Thebe V's daughter will automatically be renamed to Cordelia Thebe VI, and J Huntington III's son will be renamed to J Huntington IV. Sims do not require to be in a dynasty or possess a noble rank to be eligible for this; simply to be an unplayed sim and to have a valid generation number in the surname.
Generational names can still be lost if a sim marries into a dynasty and Enforce Dynasty Names is enabled. The sim may assume the dynasty name instead.
This function also supports games from other languages, matching their naming conventions to properly calculate and apply generational names. The mod will change how it checks for generations based on the language you have the game set to. Below are some examples.
- Chinese (Traditional): 柯德莉亞.底比五世 -> 柯德莉亞.底比六世
- Chinese (Simplified):
- Danish: Cordelia Thebe 5 -> Cordelia Thebe 6
NOTE: I do not speak any of these languages fluently. There may be mistakes in the naming conventions with this mod. If you are a speaker who encounters any issues with how this function works, please do leave a comment and tell me where I went wrong. Thank you.
MCCC Marriage Name Sync Replacement
THIS IS ALSO DISABLED BY DEFAULT!!!
You can find the setting to enable it through Global Mod Settings > Dynasty Settings > Generational Name Settings > MCCC Sync Married Names Replacement > [MASTER] Enable/Disable MCCC Sync Married Name Replacement.
To disable the MCCC setting, click on a computer and select the 'MC Command Center' option. Then navigate to MC Cleaner > Sim Cleaner... > Sync Married Names and set it to Disabled.
MCCC has a setting under MC Cleaner called Marriage Sync which routinely checks married sims and ensures their married names are set to the same. This is a useful function to ensure game consitency. However, it will override sims like Cordelia Thebe V as 'Thebe V' is considered the entire surname rather than just 'Thebe'. So, to preserve the naming changes made by this mod, I have made a replicate to this mod which applies naming changes when a new marriages occurs whilst preserving any dynasty name changes or generational names. There are several different naming modes to chose from for both heterosexual and same-sex marriages.
This system isn't perfect, so if you have any improvements or suggestions for it I would love to hear them.
Marriage Modes
- Gender Priority: Prioritises the surname of the spouse which has the selected priority gender in the settings. Heterosexual marriages only.
- Random Surname Selection: Selects a random spouse and uses their surname.
- Compounded Surnames: Uses a new compounded surname system where both names are combined (for example: Liberty Lee-Scott and Travis Lee-Scott). More information on this system can be seen below this list.
- Random Mode Selection: Selects one of the above modes at random when a marriage occurs.
- None: No naming changes will be made.
Compound Surnames
This system will alphabetically combine two of the marrying sims surnames into one (Travis Scott + Liberty Lee = Lee-Scott). Both spouses will remember which side of the surname was their maiden name (Travis remembers his was on the right, Liberty remembers hers was on the left). If they become divorced, the name will be split once again and Travis Lee-Scott will become Travis Scott again and Liberty Lee-Scott will become Liberty Lee.
If a couple with compounded names have children, then each child will inherit the parent of the same gender's side of the family name. For example, if Travis and Liberty give birth to a son Traberty Lee-Scott, (yes, Traberty), then Traberty will use Travis's maiden name if he gets married and will pass it down to his sons. The same goes for daughters and mothers with compound names.
Bugs/Feedback?
If there's anything in my mod that isn't working correctly or it's missing features you'd like to see added, please drop a comment on this mod page. I'm always open to criticisms or bug fixes, and I really do appreciate input so I can improve the mod.
Reporting bugs also helps me a lot, as I don't often play the Sims 4 in my own time, so they can often go unnoticed by me if they are unreported. Reporting them will ensure I get them fixed faster and a working version pushed out sooner.
Looking for a previous version?
Check out my Patreon page for a list of all previous versions of this mod. This is mostly for any updates that may break or cause issues for other users, so they can fallback to older working version whilst I fix the bugs.
