Considering this lot originally belonged to the Landgraabs, I wanted to match their vibe with this new house, which led me to researching for celebrity houses. To me more specific, this build is based on 537 Huntley Dr,West Hollywood, CA 90048.
Compared to my first modern house, this was a massive improvement. However, almost one year later, I decided to revisit it. To do it, I went looser on the self-imposed colour restriction, and the colouful bedroom upstairs is a good example of that. Does if match the Landgraabs vibe? No. However, there's only so much I can do without using more packs.
One of my goals was to fix the upstairs landing. First, I made it smaller by increasing one of the bedrooms, and giving the other one a wardrobe (which lacked one). I also managed to close off the gym! As no one really needs that much balcony, the front one was reduced, while the office bump-out got increased, which also had its material changed to stone. Doing this gave the plant bedroom its own private balcony, whereas the office got more breathing space. For the back porch, I switched the painting equipment with the seating, so it's less crammed, and added a candle making table in its former place. The random seating was moved to the center — and I just found out it's non-functional o-o
This was originally made during my excessive lights era, which made sims terribly bright! The kitchen, for example, not only had that problem, but also way too many chairs. The asymmetry caused by the not built-in fridge and the multiple shades of brown also called for a change. I felt relief to be able to update the doors and the smaller windows with the newer ones!
For gameplay purposes, a smaller house is better than a bigger one, which meant this large lot was mostly sparse. My past self tried to mitigate this, but I didn't really know how to landscape in a desert. Resulting in a half-finished state I could now finally complete. The backyard also felt empty, and while they haven't added anything new between now and then (still waiting for a floatie), I set the tent from Sims Sessions Debug, added a hot tub, more plants and changed a few objects.
To finish this off, I improved the guest bedroom by reducing one of its windows to fit a built-in wardrobe and move the bed there, turning its previous space into an additional bathroom! I also redecorated the other ones, with the one downstairs even getting a secret door to the garage! The location could be better, but the yard sales table just called for a shortcut to the bathroom. Make sure to lock that door for sims not in the household.
By the way! The base game lacks a plain glass fence, but there's a way to get rid of the poles, which consists of adding walls or fences that can later be removed. If you plan on posting the build on the gallery, save to your library and place it again to confirm they're gone. It works better if the fence is in a room, or else you'll have to find a way to hide the tiny triangles left by them.
