Floorplan, exterior: The home is charming early mid-century seaside delight, and in a small way it sort of looks like a tug boat - large black mass at the bottom, bright white small wheelhouse at the top with large 270* open air private balcony. It is very large and unapologetically square, in a sense this simplicity flows through to the details, including multi-story breathable walls cladding the ground and first floor wrap-around decking, modern square fencing/railings all around, large energy-efficient and stylish windows, and square, eccentric roofing. The home has been recently modernized thanks to a collaboration with Evergreen Harbor EcoKooks EcoEngineering Co. and includes environmentally-friendly water-capture and solar-capture roofing systems, to help reduce resource usage day to day. With a little love and further investment, this home could continue well into the 2040s with minimal changes - a timeless design that continues to move with the times.
Floorplan, interior: The interior of this home is a bit more obviously mid-20th century, starting at the front entry. A combination sitting room, dinette and eat-in kitchen with full open floorplan is on display. On the other side of the partially-open stairwell, the movie room: a more personal space for the family. Up the stairs, the first floor is dedicated to the children with 3 large bedrooms supporting all life stages from newborn through young adult, and features a built-in fish tank, plenty of bright large windows, and things for children to do. The second floor is entirely for the homeowner(s), the primary suite floor. Enter through the primary suite bathroom which features a spa-quality set of fixtures, into the primary suite private closet, and exit either directly to the bed or into the private sitting area and onto the 2nd floor private balcony. Each floor features modern flooring and eco-lux wood paneling to compliment the mid-century theming of the home.
Three SimPrime favorite things about this home:
- The large wrap-around sun deck is fantastic and offers excellent views of the sea and Crumbling Isle wilderness
- Each space is inviting, warm, and fully featured offering the entire family something to do
- The side garden includes space for a swing set and child's play area, though this could be developed further
Bonus: The kitchen has recently been updated with the Home Chef Hustle kit appliances, counters, flooring and plumbing. BYO waffle maker, mixer, and pizza oven!
ETC: The shell of this property is provided by u/agentshawnee through the "Modern Madness Shell" Sims Discord challenge. While not an official entry into the contest, I loved the shape of the property so much I knew I had to build something from it, and what I saw was a timeless late 1940s seaside MCM home waiting to be born. With just a little theming, some care and a big wrap-around deck, the idea was set in stone. Stucco. Aluminum siding. You know what I mean. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did building it.
