NPC Family Genetics Fix
by deadlystingnyc
Have you ever seen an NPC family in the household manager and noticed the kids look nothing like their parents? Different skintone, different hair color, completely unrelated features? The game generates homeless NPC households without applying its own genetics system to the children, so families end up looking like strangers who happen to share an address. NPC Family Genetics Fix corrects that.
Why You Need This
The Sims 4 has a perfectly good genetics system that blends parent features into children naturally. It just doesn't use it when generating NPC households. The result is families where the parents and children share no resemblance whatsoever, which quietly undermines the believability of your world the moment you look closely. This mod applies the game's own genetics to those children so families actually look like families.
How It Works
When a new NPC Sim spawns as part of a homeless household with a parent and child genealogy link, the mod applies the game's genetics system using the in-household parent or parents as the source. Skin tone, facial structure, hair color, and eye color are all affected.
What's excluded:
- Sims born in-game via pregnancy are never touched, only auto-generated NPC households
- Sims living in homes are never processed, only homeless NPC households
- Sims with no genealogy links to anyone else in their household, such as married couples with no children, are left untouched
- Already processed Sims are tracked and skipped on future loads so the mod never applies genetics twice
Requirements
- The Sims 4 — base game only, no packs required
Installation
- Download
deadlystingnyc_npc_family_genetics_fix.ts4scriptandnfgf_config.cfg - Drop both files into your Mods folder:
Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods/ - In-game, go to Game Options → Other and make sure Script Mods are enabled
- Run
nfgf_repaironce from the cheat console to process any existing NPC families already in your save
⚠️ Both the
.ts4scriptandnfgf_config.cfgfiles are required. The mod will not work if either is missing.
Troubleshooting
Open the cheat console with Ctrl+Shift+C, enter testingcheats true, then use:
| Command | What It Does |
|---|---|
nfgf_repair |
Scans all homeless households and applies genetics to any unprocessed children |
nfgf_log |
Print config, counts, recently fixed Sims, and homeless household status |
